George,
Today I added comments from 7 folks to the blog. We now have 14 class members on facebook and have also received contact updates for 3 more addresses/emails to go along with a few from last week.
Have you heard from Scott, Chip, Jeff or Richard?
Thanks,
Charlie
From George: Thanks for the email Charlie - hmmm! I wonder where those boys are and why they haven't responded or replied. Should we send out an APB? Somebody find these guys - there's nowhere to hide!!!!!
_____________
We will be retiring to Spartanburg, SC this fall, effective date around Oct 1st. My email will remain same. New address will be:
Sidney L. Rhode
133 Turnstone Lane
Spartanburg, SC 29301
(took me a second to recognize this one - it's Lorraine Kitchens! Man that girl could sing. Lorraine, have you recorded and album since we last saw you?)

George,
The e-mail address for Brasstown Bald is www.brasstownvalley.com. There are plenty of accommodations for all who want to attend and they handle events. It seems that there are enough activities to keep us occupied, also. I checked out Savannah too, and one of the more promising locations there is www.savannah.hyatt.com. That is right on the river with beautiful views. I'm cool with the mountains, though, especially if we decide on September.
Thanks,
Patty

More Class of 1970 comments
"I liked the slogan at one of the reunions "The Final Wave"."
… I think the more relaxed things are the better time we have. Summer is better for me because being a teacher I have summers off. Let me know if I can do anything to help from home. I am kind of tied down to my home because my mother lives with us and is totally dependent on Tommy and me. Thanks for doing this. Sybil Walker Coffee
… I missed the last one but will be there or bust at the next one! Anyone of the places suggested sounds great to me. Jayne Bland Allen
… Count me and Sandy in for the festivities. … I just never know when is a good time for us with my work travel to consider, not semi-retired like some folks! I know Dec-Feb is pretty much off the plate. Typically, so is June and August. September is nice.
As for a place, doesn't matter to us. Oddly enough, I have two meetings coming up in SAV, one in Oct. 09 and another in Feb. 2010. After a long, hot summer, the mountains could be interesting.
Bill Lavender
I would prefer Spring, One day and I like the Brasstown Bald idea. It is a great place to visit.
Dave Smith
I am available to help in any way. Do we have a date yet?
I thought about the meeting facilities at Lake Blackshear which is a State Park. Our sorority had a function there; the hotel facilities and meeting rooms were very nice. It isn't that far from Ft Valley. I believe Diane Mullis has a house @ Lake Blackshear. Then there is Lake Oconee; Reynolds Plantation and the Ritz Carlton (more pricey).
Monisa Trice Moore
… let me know what I can do to help … Steve Luce
Callaway gardens is another idea (even though we did that a while back!). … I'm excited to get this started and will help as much as I can!!!!

E Mail Comments From FVHS 1970 Classmates
George, I forgot about the house on Lake Burton. It is very big and right on the lake. Not much parking but you could have a hell of a party there. It is owned by the Ralph Twiggs Estate. It would be no problem to use it. Has big dock and I can probably get several boats to use on the lake. I have access to two there. It will be only about 8 miles to our house. Cater lunch and spend the afternoon.
I can put this together!!!!!! Randy Bryan

Tiger is 5 miles south of Clayton on US 441. House is next to Tiger Mountain Winery on old US 441.
While I was doing some tractor work last night I thought about a few places to have a reunion. Elizabeth Pointe Lodge, Amelia Island Florida. King and Prince, Saint Simons Georgia. Three Day cruise out of Jacksonville Florida. Riverfront Hotel in Savannah. Google Elizabeth Pointe Lodge and check it out. I have a friend who had their class reunion there. Bed and breakfast with rental houses available. Have stayed in both. I could also host this at the house in Tiger. We have redone Dawne’s grandmothers house, probally the oldest in Rabun county. Built about 1820. We have reunions there. Would handle 50 plus and could sleep a dozen. Plenty of Hotels in Clayton 5 miles away. Google Tiger Mountain Vineyard and the pictures you see are what you would see from our house. Also 8 miles south is the Lodge at Tallulah Falls. It is a commercial setup for groups. Randy Bryan

I recommend we continue to work out the What, When and Where, while we are searching for the rest of the class. Based on my 2005 experience the search takes the longest time.
• I have a complete list of 1970 grads on a spreadsheet Randy & I used for the 2005 reunion.
• I have 96 names with snail mail addresses from 2005 and of those we now have about 45 with email addresses that didn’t bounce back as bad on Monday.
• In 2005 we never located 10 of our classmates
• There are a total of 8 deceased members of the class.
The good news is we can contact almost ½ our class via email and likely can increase that with all of the new technology … we got 10 folks on facebook yesterday and 2 were folks we did not have email for in 2005.
I’ll update the list this week as additional contact info comes and share it with you.
If you’d like I can set up a toll free teleconference that will accommodate a planning group meeting.
Oh, I don’t know if you consider this a slogan but we are “The Last Greenwave”.
Thanks,
Charlie

I'm willing to help...just tell me what you would like me to do. Since we are the last class of FVHS, how do you feel about doing a 2 day deal, with the first night for any FVHS alumni (combined) then Saturday event break out by class? Didn't the classes before us try this?
I've added Linda Jones, Susan Hudson, Leslie Newberry, Diane Mullis, and Ronnie Borum in this reply. (I also have their phone numbers)
Martha Anne and Chuck Fain were in town recently...I twisted their arms to come back for the reunion...given enough notice they will commit.
Monisa
Blessings to you and yours!!

First Day Brings Much Interest
Today was the first day of conversations about our upcoming reunion. I spoke personally with Patty Gilbert and Charlie Crawley and it is amazing to me what all of the new technology can accomplish.
I have received many emails from others ( Monisa in particular) and it seems that everyone is willing to help. Our biggest problem is in finding everyone. Collectively, we can come up with a lot of contacts but we want to be sure that EVERYONE is invited.
Does anyone have an official class list from 1970? All you have to do is comment on this blog and we will get all of the info assembled into some organized form. As I get the info, I will post it here. I thing that Facebook will be useful in finding all of us, but the blog will be our main source of info.
Please email or call me and give me any and all names, addresses and contact info that you have. Once we find everyone, we'll start thinking about the What, When and Where!
I recently discovered that another former co-worker of mine is terminally ill and this really gave me pause. We have a long history with each other and our time here is far too limited NOT to do this. So please get excited about this and let's make this thing happen.
Does anyone have a good slogan for us?
Maybe we can invite Mrs. Cleveland and get her to call the roll. We should get her to give us a list of words to learn like she always did. I still remember the word "persiflage" - learned it in senior English from Mrs. Cleveland. Never had to use it till now!
It means, a light flippant style of writing or conversation!
See, I'm not as dumb as I look thanks to FVHS.
Later.
George

Dear Fellow Classmates of FVHS 1970 Graduating Class:
September 7, 2009
Since I am now in a state of semi-retirement, I have the time to kick-off the expectation that we can have a great class reunion for the 40th anniversary of our graduation.
I just this morning had a conversation with the lovely and talented Patty Gilbert Hill about the prospects and ideas for this event. We decided that there are really three things we have to consider:
When (Winter, Fall, Summer, Spring)
Where ( City, Hotel, Beach, Mountains)
What ( Friday and Saturday or just one day, dinner, etc.)
When: We need to get responses from everyone as to what time of year is the best for all.
Where: Patty suggested a resort area in Savannah and I suggested Brasstown Bald resort. Please submit any and all suggestions and we will negotiate a deal in these economic times. Anything! Nothing is off the table.
What: One day, two day week-end, 30 minute lunch (just kidding) or WHATEVER. I like the idea of meeting somewhere with plenty of “stuff” for all to do in a leisurely sort of way and then have a few collective planned activities e.g. a parallel parking contest or a dog dipping class. Maybe golfing, boating, eating, sleeping, drinking or hiking around for the more adventuresome folks.
LET’S GET THE BALL ROLLING! We still have plenty of time to make our 40th the best ever.
I have seen a few comments about a reunion from Monisa, Charlie Crawley and Randy – so let’s get some more comments. Maybe we could create a web-page to this. Who’s good at that sort of thing?
(Our new Blog spot is http://fvhs1970.blogspot.com/ and we also have set up a Facebook page - Fortvalley High )
Life is too short not to do this!
